While at times, I have the
“patience of a saint”, I am not the most patient person on the planet.
I hate standing in lines,
never feel the computer or TV remote responds fast enough, and certainly had
trouble waiting throughout the adoption process. After all, if I could have
gotten pregnant, I would already have children.
Not all adoption processes
are smooth sailing. Some have bumps in the road. Some have downright road
blocks. And, weathering the process is not always easy.
There were days I never
thought it would happen - that I wasn’t meant to be a mother. Days of doubts,
fears and times I stayed away from any event or place I might see a baby or
pregnant woman.
There were days that I was
so excited, I could hardly sit still. I would compare cribs and changing
tables, look at layettes and clothing, dream of nursery themes and read books
about baby and child care.
I tried to remember that
adoption works and that when the time was right I would be a mother. And it did
- the process worked – twice for me. I adopted 2 infant girls 3 ½ years apart.
They were worth the wait.
